Water Resource Features

The water resources of Akathethara Grama Panchayat mainly depend on sources originating from the Western Ghats region. Karippalithodu and Ambattuthodu, formed by streams flowing from the reserve forest areas, are among the major water sources of the Panchayat.

In addition, canals and small channels constructed from the Malampuzha Dam reservoir for irrigation purposes support the Panchayat’s agricultural activities. The Kalpathy River, a tributary associated with the Bharathapuzha, is also one of the important water resources of the Panchayat.

Several ponds and small-scale water storage systems have also been developed in different parts of the Panchayat to improve water availability for agriculture. These water resources play a vital role in agricultural development, drinking water availability, and maintaining ecological balance in the region.
